South African top junior Kholo Montsi bagged his first Junior ITF Grade 2 singles title at the Curro ITF Junior tournament at the Maties Tennis Club in Stellenbosch on Friday.
The 17-year-old defeated Benito Martinez of Germany, in straight sets (7-5, 6-3), to claim the win in the final.
Montsi, seeded third, did not drop a set all week. “Today was a really good day, being able to get through to my Grade II final and winning it was really a good achievement. This win made me realize that I am really working hard every day, physically and mentally.
“I am really happy. I played a very tough opponent and it wasn’t easier at all, so I had to fight for every point,” added Montsi.
A fantastic achievement for the young player, who is based at the Anthony Harris Academy in Cape Town.
